Active York Sports Awards

The Awards 2017

The stars and unsung heroes of York were hailed at our fourth annual Active York Sports Awards that took
place in the University of York’s Roger Kirk Centre at the end of March. The Active York Sports Awards continue
to grow each year and the number of nominations, clubs and variety of sports and clubs involved this year was
testament to this. The event was incredibly heart-warming and inspiring and to see the wealth of sporting
talent the city of York has all in one room was encouraging and created a real sense of pride.

Sportsman of the Year and Sportswoman of the Year respectively. Softball international Mathew Tomlin was
named Student Sportsperson of the Year, while Coach of the Year went to Ian Thomson, who coaches the
university's women's rugby union team.

City of York Athletic Club runner Alex Botterill landed the Young Male Sportsperson of the Year
